Loosing someone you love really hurts.
It changes everything. It leaves a huge hole in your soul, and feels like nothing will ever be the same again. Probably, because it won’t.
Death is a very difficult thing to experience. It’s no fun when you get that phone call, or get called to the hospital, to say goodbye to someone you love. During my time as a firefighter, and even now serving in ministry, I have witnessed my fair share of hurt caused by the death of a loved one. I have spent many hours at local hospitals, praying with the families of someone who is ill, or has recently passed away.
Those times are not even close to easy, but there can be some reassurance when we know that the person is a stalwart follower of Jesus. I know it sounds crazy, but sometimes that enables the family to rejoice through their pain.What a relief to know that the person we are missing, is in the arms of the savior,and will no longer experience the pain and hurt we have here on earth.
Now I know this may be a strange thing to write my weekly blog about, but I think it’s important to get our minds turning here a little bit.
So let me propose a strong question here. How is your faith walk?? Do you even have one? What is going to happen to you when you die?
In the bible, the Apostle John spells it out for us, here he writes the words of Jesus;
“Don’t let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God, and trust also in me. 2 There is more than enough room in my Father’s home.[a] If this were not so, would I have told you that I am going to prepare a place for you?[b] 3 When everything is ready, I will come and get you, so that you will always be with me where I am. 4 And you know the way to where I am going.”
5 “No, we don’t know, Lord,” Thomas said. “We have no idea where you are going, so how can we know the way?”
6 Jesus told him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one can come to the Father except through me. 7 If you had really known me, you would know who my Father is.[c] From now on, you do know him and have seen him!”
Cut and dry, There is no way to get to the father, except through Jesus. Now, I know that can be kinda difficult to comprehend. Or perhaps you are thinking “Hey, I already believe that!” That’s good. But there is a little more to it than that. God not only wants your heart, he wants your actions too. Bottom line, you need to live like someone died for you!
Jesus paid the cost for your sins, when he sacrificed himself on the cross. He took that death for you, so you can live. Then, share what you know.
Your story is powerful! And it caries life! You never know who’s life you may impact, just by sharing your story.
This past month, our family has dealt with the loss of quite a few loved ones. It has been a rough season. Has it been tough? No doubt. I think I have cried more over the last couple months than I have in years!! The thing that makes it bearable is knowing that our loved ones were with the Lord!!
Listen, I know death is a tough thing to talk about, but if we never discuss it, how can we ever prepare for it? Sometimes we need to put the awkward things aside, so we can talk about things that are important.
As for me, when it’s my time to go, I want my family to be able to celebrate! They can be happy, because I know where I am going!!
How bout you?
Is your heart ready?
Till next week,
