Comfort from the past.

This morning I was reading through the Old Testament book of Isaiah. Isaiah was one of the most well known, respected Prophets in biblical history. He was a voice used by the Lord to communicate with his children Israel.

So anyways, I was reading through Chapter 40. It’s a powerful verse. The Message paraphrase starts the chapter off with the title “Messages of Comfort.”

I was happy to read that, because I have been going through some rough patches on the road of life myself. as I read, I thought to myself “Yes Lord, send some comfort my way.”

I was happy to find that the prophet shares words of encouragement. Words meant to remind Nation Israel that theirs is the one true God.

Then, as verse 12, I found this;

Isaiah 40:12-14 New Living Translation (NLT)

The Lord Has No Equal

12

Who else has held the oceans in his hand?

Who has measured off the heavens with his fingers?

Who else knows the weight of the earth

or has weighed the mountains and hills on a scale?

13

Who is able to advise the Spirit of the Lord?[a]

Who knows enough to give him advice or teach him?

14

Has the Lord ever needed anyone’s advice?

Does he need instruction about what is good?

Did someone teach him what is right

or show him the path of justice?

“The Lord Has no Equal!” Wow, what comforting words. There is truly none like our God!

Then as I continued on, I found one of my favorite pieces of scripture;

Isaiah 40:28-31 New Living Translation (NLT)

28

Have you never heard?

Have you never understood?

The Lord is the everlasting God,

the Creator of all the earth.

He never grows weak or weary.

No one can measure the depths of his understanding.

29

He gives power to the weak

and strength to the powerless.

30

Even youths will become weak and tired,

and young men will fall in exhaustion.

31

But those who trust in the Lord will find new strength.

They will soar high on wings like eagles.

They will run and not grow weary.

They will walk and not faint

I love this scripture! Isaiah boldly reminds us that the Lord is the everlasting God!! That he never gets tired, and no one can measure his understanding!

He gives power to the weak,

And those who trust in the Lord will find new strength!!!

I really don’t think it gets better than that! Isaiah’s words from so long ago are so relevant to us in this season as well.

We live in a desperate time, we need to be reminded that God is so much bigger than all the problems in our world.

God is in control, and he has not forgotten us. There is nothing he cannot handle.

Sometimes the old scriptures still speak to us in a way that nothing else can. I wonder what it was like to be there, listening to the prophets speak?

We may never know. I for one embrace the old writings. You never know what you will find. Sometimes it’s something you weren’t even looking for.

What do you think?

Till next week,

PJ
