We have to stop the hate. Communicate.

We live in the Information Age. Everyone has a smart phone. People carry tablets and ipads everywhere. Even the vehicles we drive are connected to the internet via one network or the other.

But for some reason, as a culture, we have lost the ability to communicate.

Relationships are basically built on communication. When I was a younger man, if needed to express feelings toward someone, I would speak directly to them. Sometimes it was hard, scary even. But whatever was going on in my mind, was expressed and dealt with right then and there.

Today, people don’t talk. They text, email or stare blankly at their little screen. We very rarely talk on the phone anymore. The modern era of communication, has removed the human emotion of conversation.

Our children are growing up in a relationship-less world. And it’s normal to them.

Social media has given a voice to every heartless evil thought that we posses. We hide behind a screen name, and blast our thoughts to the world, with no concern for how they may impact someone’s life.

As long as we get more “Likes” and more and more “Followers” nothing else matters.

Has our culture completely forgotten how to interact??

How to love?

The sad answer is yes. Part of the problem in our context, is our hearts aren’t right.

In the Scriptures, Paul the Apostle taught a very simple lesson. He wrote:

Ephesians 4:31-32New Living Translation (NLT)

31 Get rid of all bitterness, rage, anger, harsh words, and slander, as well as all types of evil behavior. 32 Instead, be kind to each other, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, just as God through Christ has forgiven you.

I Feel like in our fast paced world, we as a people have forgotten how to be kind, and Love each other.

The advent of the social media age has removed the filter that one existed in our lives, Replacing it with anger, rage, political slander, hate, bitterness and malice. Our hearts that were once filled with love, now share hate and bitterness with the click of our mouse.

Paul’s teaching is still relevant to us in this age. As people of faith, we have to work to be above the norm. In a dark and saddened world, we must be the light.

We have to be the “Old School communicators!”  We as followers of Jesus, need to be different. We must love, even when it’s hard. We have to show kindness, even when there is hate. We have to communicate the love of Jesus.

Will you join me? Step out of the norm.

Make a difference

Start today.

What do you think?

Till next week,

PJ.
