What is going on??
How can we possibly go on like this?
Is there any hope for change in the world?
These are some common questions I often hear. When people find out that I am a follower of Jesus, sometimes they smile, or chuckle, or outright laugh. Sometimes they even poke fun. But most people are really looking for someone to listen. Someone that can answer their questions. Perhaps someone who can provide them comfort from the Scriptures, that there is more to life that what we see on a daily basis.
Let’s be real for a moment. We live in an evil world. Man is an evil species. We all have evil inside us. Most folks make bad decisions on a daily basis, then can’t understand why they have to live with the ramifications of said decisions. Instead, blaming someone or something else for their problems. Usually, they blame God.
“Why would a loving God allow all these terrible things to happen to me??” They say.
“If God was real, the world wouldn’t be like this.”
Yes it would, and it is.
You see, God made man with the ability to make his own decisions. It’s called free will. He gave us the ability to form and craft our own lives in his image.
But then something happened, Sin entered the world. Man began to live for himself and his own interests, not God’s. What followed, was a downward spiral that lead to the Almighty God, sacrificing his own son as a payment for the sins of the entire world. (Matthew 27:32-56)
Some choose to accept that sacrifice, and live new lives in him (John 14:6) and well, most choose not to.
Yep, that’s how we find ourselves where we are today. We as a culture decide what we believe and embrace, then we follow that. Most people have made the decision to turn away from what scripture teaches, and focus on themselves.
Paul the apostle actually taught about this in his letter to Timothy, his young scholar. Check it here;
2 Timothy 3New Living Translation (NLT)
The Dangers of the Last Days
3 You should know this, Timothy, that in the last days there will be very difficult times. 2 For people will love only themselves and their money. They will be boastful and proud, scoffing at God, disobedient to their parents, and ungrateful. They will consider nothing sacred. 3 They will be unloving and unforgiving; they will slander others and have no self-control. They will be cruel and hate what is good. 4 They will betray their friends, be reckless, be puffed up with pride, and love pleasure rather than God. 5 They will act religious, but they will reject the power that could make them godly. Stay away from people like that!
You see, it’s all been foretold, many many years ago.
So, what about now, is there hope??
Yes, but it’s only found in the saving grace of Jesus. See, he has already won the war. He sacrificed everything for you! The fight is over, he has defeated death. And he is the only saving grace for what’s happening in our world today.
The World needs Jesus, plain and simple.
Now, I know this may all be tough to swallow, but it’s true.
All that matters now is… Do you believe it??
What do you think?
Till next week,
